NHS Pathways Crowned Winner of Winners at 2008 FileMaker Cube Awards

FileMaker rewards 'developers of excellence' across education, innovation and business categories

LONDON, UK, 21st November 2008 – Solutions developed for NHS Pathways, restaurant chain Pret A Manger and Bryanston School in Dorset have emerged as winners at this year's FileMaker Cube Awards.

The award-winning projects were awarded on the basis of the innovative, productivity improving solutions they created using FileMaker technology and were selected from a shortlist of organisations in both the public and private sectors.

Demonstrating outstanding results against their individual business challenges, the winners of this year's awards were:

  • The Education Award – celebrating the most inspiring use of FileMaker technology in an educational institution, the 2008 award was won by CJM Software Ltd for their SchoolAdministrator solution implemented at Bryanston School, Dorset
  • The Business Award – highlighting the effectiveness of FileMaker technology in a business or non-profit organisation, the 2008 award was won by DataTherapy for their Pret A Manger's Manager Toolkit solution for restaurant chain Pret A Manger
  • The Innovation Award – a new category this year, the winner of this category used FileMaker technology to create a unique, ground-breaking solution. The 2008 award was won by NHS Pathways, NHS Connecting for Health for their Pathways Authoring Tools solution

Chris Boulton – Joint Managing Director at CJM Software Ltd commented, "We've been working really closely with teachers to get this solution right and it's paid off. As ex-teachers ourselves we understand that the key has been matching the processes in our products to the procedures in place at each school. We're really proud that our hard work has been recognised and hope that our clients continue to enjoy the benefits of our work."

All shortlisted entrants were also entered into the "Winner of Winners Award" category and given the chance to win a trip to attend the popular FileMaker Developer Conference 2009 in San Francisco next year. The lucky 2008 'Winner of Winners' was NHS Pathways, whose medical response solution has reduced the unnecessary call out of around 700 NHS ambulances each month in the North East of England alone.

Jackie Shears, Head of NHS Pathways commented, "We're really proud to be crowned Winner of Winners – it's the result of 4 long years of hard work that has finally paid off. Ian Smith (NHS Pathways Clinical Systems Developer) began this solution and it's great to see him receiving recognition from industry experts for all his outstanding work with the FileMaker solution. He's very modest about the whole thing but in actual fact his technical and creative skills, together with the work of the rest of the team has helped various health organisations safely handle in excess of 1 million calls from people seeking urgent or emergency care, with significant benefits to both patients and the NHS in the process. As a result it is likely that the NHS Pathways product will be made available for use across the NHS."

At the award ceremony, held at The Queen's Club, Kensington, Tony Speakman, northern regional manager at FileMaker, said: "This year's Cube Awards have been a great success, and are a testament to both the high quality of work being carried out by developers across the UK as well as the versatility of FileMaker technology."

Following a successful 2007 debut, the FileMaker Cube awards are now in their second year.
