With more than 2,000 clients ranging from tiny two-room B&Bs to larger 250-bed hotels and new members joining all the time, the scheme had firmly outgrown its Excel-based assessment filing system. FileMaker Helps Cut Council Costs

As a branch of a local government, the print department is, like all areas of the public sector, hugely focused on cutting costs and delivering more service for less money. Key to this is keeping as much print work in-house as possible. With staff and equipment infrastructure costs fixed, the goal is to maximise use of internal resources and minimise the level of outsourcing. As well, there is a clear need to find creative ways to reduce the cost per project.

FileMaker Print Management Application Keeps the Presses Running

Since its founding in 1997, Fairprint had grown such that its manual order system was limiting its ability to expand further. Under the paper-based system, sales reps would write out an order form which would then follow the job throughout the company. As a result, there was no way of accurately tracking a job. As one director put it "there was a constant stream of people running about chasing jobs." By 2004, management had recognised the need for an automated solution.

FileMaker Delivers a Watertight Estate Management Database for the National Trust

Haycock Associates is a hydrology consultancy that has worked with the National Trust for many years to manage water supply and sewage infrastructure on all its properties. This is not an inconsiderable challenge as many of the historic properties have antique sewage and water systems. Also, the surrounding grounds and gardens have been landscaped or altered over time, which affects the way water flows around the estates. For compliance purposes Haycock was tasked with developing a way of capturing and storing the wealth of complex data about waste water and water supply systems across the entire portfolio of National Trust properties. In addition, accurate visibility information about how oil supplies are stored on-site was crucial. A new database project was commissioned. It was hoped it would become the central information store providing managers with a complete view of the whole National Trust estate. A key requirement was its ability to deliver a dynamic repository where repair work could be flagged up, scheduled and tracked.

They were now becoming intrigued about the world of chocolate and Jeff researched the subject on the internet and found that chocolate can be as varied and full of character as any wine or cheese.

FileMaker Event Management Database Puts on a Great Show

With anywhere from 400 to 600 exhibitors per show, keeping track of their needs, wants and contractual obligations is a mammoth task. For as long as anyone can remember, Media 10 has used FileMaker to make sure that contracts were signed, welcome packs assembled and sent out, invoices sent and paid, and so on. But the system in place hadn't been upgraded in years and came nowhere close to living up to FileMaker's potential. As well, there was a different FileMaker application in place for each show, so data could not be compared across events.
