FileMaker Exhibits at SETT Show Island in Second Life

LONDON – 19th September 2007 – The Scottish Learning Festival that opens in Scotland today is being taken into the virtual world with an Island in Second Life.

FileMaker, a provider of easy to use database technology that can be adapted to the education sector, will be exhibiting at the show in Scotland. In addition FileMaker will also have a booth on the SETT Island in Second Life. Those that are unable to attend the show in person will be able to experience the show and receive information and goodie bags by visiting the booth at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Learn4Life/128/128/0 without having to leave their desks!

The booth in Second Life is a further step for FileMaker in the move towards helping pupils, teachers and administration staff take advantage of the technology on offer to support them day-to-day. Earlier this year FileMaker set up its Education Resource Centre to provide ideas and resources to highlight how database software can play a bigger role in the curriculum, not just in the ICT lesson. The Education Centre is a practical source of ideas to help teachers design creative lessons using flexible database software, in all curriculum subjects, not just ICTwww.filemaker.co.uk/educationcentre

Tony Speakman, regional manager for Northern Europe commented, "The Scottish Learning Festival will be a great opportunity for educationalists to experience and witness the innovation taking place in ICT. The Island in Second Life will enable even those that can't attend the show in person to find out about all the great developments happening and we are really excited to be a part of this."

FileMaker recently launched an upgrade to its product portfolio with FileMaker 9. The new functions in the product will provide many benefits to the education sector with improved functionality such as conditional formatting, auto resize and append to PDF.

The SETT show should be an exciting, innovative event. Scotland is increasingly being recognised for its digital innovation in providing the children of the future with access to technology. One example of this is Glow, an Intranet portal for schools and education institutions across Scotland to access and share information. The decision to build an island in Second Life to mirror the education event is further proof of this forward thinking in ICT.

FileMaker will be on stand C54 at the show being held at the SECC in Glasgow from 19th - 20th September: www.ltscotland.org.uk/sett
