"Hands up 'Doctor Who' wants to go on the trip?"

Local school wins trip to Doctor Who exhibition

Manchester – A schoolteacher has won a free trip for 30 lucky pupils at Urmston Grammar School to visit the Doctor Who Up Close Exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester.

Johnny Morris visited the FileMaker stand at the annual educational technology show, BETT, held at Olympia London and entered the competition on behalf of his school. He was randomly selected from hundreds of entries to win the trip, which includes 30 tickets for pupils and six adult tickets.

The exhibition, which is at the Museum of Science and Industry, allows pupils to get up-close to actual props, costumes and monsters from the hit BBC programme. The exhibition coincides with the long-awaited third series starring David Tennant and Freema Agyeman and features exciting new items from the latest programmes once they have been aired on TV.

Johnny Morris, ICT coordinator at Urmston Grammar comments, "I am so pleased to have won this trip. We have lots of Doctor Who fans at the school and this will be a great way to reward the kids for all the hard work and effort they have put in this year. What's more, it will also inspire more pupils to get motivated in using technology to help them learn."

The trip is hoping to take place during Expo Week at Urmston Grammar School (2nd July – 6th July), a week long event dedicated to science related activity at the school. All timetabled lessons have been suspended and pupils will be able to experience a range of activities including cooking food with nitrogen, building robots, a portable planetarium and a miniature zoo that will contain birds of prey, insects and bugs.

Chris Reece, sales executive, FileMaker comments, "The competition was designed to give a school the opportunity to go out and have some fun, but to also highlight how technology can really benefit pupils in the classroom. We hope the pupils at Urmston Grammar School really enjoy the trip."
